Removing and installing fuel tank - RA47LH1044100X(47-4100)

A. Without skibag
Ground cable at battery |
disconnect, connect. release by removing fuel filler cap (40), fitting on. |
| Pressure in fuel tank | examine; replace, if necessary. |
| Seal (41) Fuel tank (50) |
empty. Carefully pump out fuel to ensure that no fuel remains in the tank. Capacity about 100 liters. |
| Cup seal (55) | release, insert. |
| Fuel tank lining as well as left and right side trunk lining | remove, install. |
| Cover for fuel pump set | remove, install. |
| Coupling (arrow) for fuel gauge sender | unplug, plug in. |
| Fuel suction hose (53), fuel return hose (74), vent hose | take off, fit on. Collect remaining fuel, seal connections. Check suitability for re-use. Ensure cup seals (72, 73) are correctly located. Special tool 000 589 71 03 00 Tightening torque 21 Nm |
| Nuts (38, 4 ea.) | unscrew, screw on. Use washers (35). Tightening torque 21 Nm. |

NOTE:
If optional "Bose Soundsystem" is fitted, remove amplifier unit, install (82-7720).

| Fuel tank (50) | remove, insert. Examine sound insulation strips (29, 30), replace if necessary. To do this, stick on strips with MB universal adhesive 000 989 92 71. |
| Fuel strainer (23) | remove, clean, check suitability for re-use, install. Tightening torque 40 Nm. |
| O-ring (26) | replace. |
| Leaktightness of all connections | check with engine running. |
Special tools
B. With skibag
| Expansion tank | remove, install (47-8021) . |
| Seal (41) | examine, replace if necessary. |
| Coupling (arrow) for fuel gauge sender (B4) | unplug, plug in. |
| Fuel tank (50) | empty. Carefully pump out fuel so that no fuel remains in the tank. Capacity about 90 liters. |
| Cup seal (55) Fuel suction hose (53), fuel return hose (74) |
remove, insert. |
| take off, fit on. Collect remaining fuel, seal connections, check suitability for re-use. Ensure cup seals (72, 73) are correctly located. Special tool 000 589 71 03 00. Tightening torque 30 Nm as reference value. | |
| Nuts (38, 4ea.) | |
| unscrew, screw on. Use washers (35). Tightening torque 21 Nm. | |
