Check and correct headlamp adjustment - AP82.10-P-8260A

MODELS 124, 129, 140, 202 

MODELS 170, 208, 210 except CODE (491) U.S. version

INSPECT Testing     
1 Park vehicle on a level surface The vehicle level must not change when the brakes are operated.
Vehicle must be in ready-for-the-road condition (unladen weight, fuel tank full or appropriate additional weight)
Adjust tire inflation pressure to correct pressure.
Have a person sit on driver's seat or place a load of 75 kg on seat (except USA).
On vehicles with level control or ADS allow motor to run at a medium speed for approx. 30 seconds.
Move vehicle back and forth to correctly adjust axle.
 
2 Read off adjustment value in %, for main and additional headlamp on vehicle headlamp or in the vicinity of the vehicle headlamp and adjust scale of headlamp adjustment tester. IMPORTANT 1% inclination "n" corresponds to 10 cm adjustment dimension "e".  
3.1 Align headlamp adjustment tester to vehicle and adjust height according to marking in lens Models 124, 129, 140, 170, 202
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the headlamp beam adjuster correctly.

3.2 Align headlamp beam adjuster to the vehicle and carry out height setting according to middle of the lens. Models 170, 208, 210
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the headlamp beam adjuster correctly.

DANGER Risk of accident  . Accidents may result if the vehicle starts off unintentionally with the engine running. Risk of injury  as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

4 Allow engine to run, switch on low beams    
5.1 Check operation of headlamp beam adjustment (standard headlamps) (except USA)
IMPORTANT The light beams from both headlamps should change uniformly.

5.2 Check operation of headlamp beam adjustment (if xenon headlamps fitted)

6 Set headlamp range control switch to position 0 IMPORTANT Remove additional weights on Xenon headlamp.  
7 Check low beam Adjust if necessary (except USA) AP82.10-P-8260-01A
    USA version models 129, 140, 202 up to approx. 03/96
IMPORTANT
By means of the common reflector unit on model 140 sedan as of approx. 03.94 and model 202, the low beam, high beam and fog lamp are adjusted simultaneously.
Due to the common reflector unit on model 170 the low beams and fog lamps are adjusted simultaneously.
USA version models 210 and 208, 129, 140, 170, 202 as of approx. 04/96, model 210: ↓
