Information for troubleshooting - RA54001070418X(54-418)

  1. Models 107, 124 and 126 
    Complaint Possible cause/Remedy
    Trip computer dead
    (No display when ignition is switched on).
    Check voltage supply of trip computer (54-421).
    Consumption display not functioning. Check fuel consumption indicator (Checking function of trip computer  checking function of trip computer).
    Consumption display deviates from effective consumption. Adapt trip computer consumption display (54-424) .
    Incorrect display for "Distance until tank empty".
    1. Fault in measuring chain from fuel gauge sensor to trip computer/Check tank contents display (Checking function of trip computer  checking function of trip computer).
    2. Vehicle was refuelled in reserve fuel range with ignition switched on. Briefly disconnect battery to restart the computer.
    Model 124 
    Intermittent failure of "Momentary consumption" display.
    Intermittent open circuit in speed signal from Hall-effect sensor. Install improved Hall-effect sensor, part no. 007 542 29 17, as of production date 06/88.
    Model 124 
    (with automatic climate control and/or cruise control)
    Total or intermittent failure of speed or distance-related displays.
    Total or intermittent open circuit at multipoint connector of Hall-effect sensor.
    Install new multipoint connector as of production date 4985 (marked with green dot), production breakpoint as of veh. end nos. A 150 123 and F 000 001.
    Complaint Possible cause/Remedy
    Model 124.090 
    For "Distance from start", trip computer indicates different values from those on odometer in instrument cluster.
    Incorrect trip computer coding plug (part no. 003 545 33 32) installed.
    Install coding plug with part no. 005 545 77 32.
    Keyboard illumination not functioning.
    1. Open circuit in cable/Check voltage supply (terminal 58) in accordance with wiring diagram.
    2. Bulb faulty. Remove keyboard (54-430)  and renew bulb.
    Illumination of trip computer display not functioning.
    1. Open circuit in cable/Check voltage supply (terminal 58/terminal 15) in accordance with wiring diagram.
    2. Bulb faulty. Remove instrument cluster (54-250) and renew bulb.
    Trip computer display only functions with lights switched on. Open circuit in voltage supply at terminal 15 of display illumination/Check voltage supply, terminal 15, in accordance with wiring diagram; renew display unit if necessary (54-436).
    Model 126 with daylight driving lamp 
    Trip computer display only functions with lights switched on or daylight driving lamp control unit disconnected.
    Change connector of switchover relay coil (terminal 15/terminal 58) of display unit from terminal 58R (fuse 11) to terminal K.
    Clock display flashes after long periods stationary. Defective soldering joint in display unit/Renew display unit.
    Fuel reserve warning does not stop after engine is started although fuel quantity is not in reserve range.
    1. Trip computer control unit is receiving no signal at socket 6, e.g. due to defective soldering joint in instrument cluster module or distorted sockets at 4-pole coupling/Renew instrument cluster module or repair contacts.
    2. Short-circuit to ground in cable to socket 21 of trip computer control unit.

    Eliminate short-circuit to ground.
    Speed or distance-related displays deviate from actual values. Speed signal not received. Check for open circuit in speed signal cable; in model 124 renew Hall-effect sensor if necessary.
  2. Models 129 and 140

    Complaint Possible cause/Remedy
    Trip computer dead
    (No display when ignition is switched on).
    Check function of trip computer, refer to Diagnosis Manual.
    Display malfunctions Check function of trip computer, refer to Diagnosis Manual.
    Consumption display deviates from effective consumption. Adapt fuel consumption display (54-424) .
    Time on instrument cluster clock deviates from time on trip computer display. Synchronize clocks, refer to "Function of trip computer", model 129, a. Components and their functions (54-415) .
