Checking hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements - AR05.00-P-2010HW

ENGINE 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 606 (except, 602.982)

INSPECT Checking     
1 Check engine oil level, correct    
2 Warm engine up to operating temperature IMPORTANT Coolant temperature 60-80 °C  
3 Remove cylinder head cover Engine 601-603  
    Engine 604-606 AR01.20-P-5014HA
4 Rotate engine at crankshaft until cam at the compensating element to be inspected is at its base circle NOTES Do not rotate engine in opposite direction of rotation.
Compensating elements which are not positioned at the base circle of the cam should be replaced.
 
5 Use a suitable tool to press compensating element (4) by hand NOTES Do not use a steel tool.
Press compensating element (4) with normal hand force.
If excessive pressure is used, the compensating element (4) appears to drop. In reality the valve opens.
IMPORTANT If one compensating element (4) drops compared to the others ↓
 
    Remove valve clearance compensating element engine 601-603 AR05.00-P-2011HX 
    Remove valve clearance compensating element engine 604-606
IMPORTANT If several compensating elements (4) drop, inspect oil gallery and oil feed drillings of the compensating elements for impurities.

6 Install in the reverse order
