A20-4200 Removing and installing radiator - RA20001194200X

Preceding work:

Bottom engine compartment panel removed

(Maintenance Manual 6190).

  1. Model 124

    Coolant to radiator drain Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    Oil lines (7) and (8) of automatic transmission at radiator (4) unbolt, bolt on (20 Nm).
    Oil line (9) of automatic transmission remove, install.
    Bracket (9a) of oil line of automatic transmission remove, install.
    Coolant hoses (10), (11) and (12) detach, attach.
    Flat springs (15) remove, install.
    Bolts (16) unscrew, screw on.
    Fan shroud (5) and (5a) separate, remove, install.
    IMPORTANT
    The air flaps (17) of the fan shroud (5) and (5a) must face toward the inside of the engine compartment.
    Flat springs (18) remove, install.
    Radiator (4) remove up and out of the rubber pads (19) of the cross member, install.
    Installation note 
    The securing studs of the radiator must be inserted into the rubber pads (19) of the cross member or mounting bracket.
    Cooling system fill, bleed Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    Oil level of automatic transmission check, adjust to correct level.
    Leaks check.
  2. Model 129 

    Preceding work:

    Fan shroud removed (20-3400) 

    Operation no. of operation texts and work units or standard texts and flat rates:

    Coolant at radiator drain Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    Coolant hoses (9), (10), (11) and (12) detach, attach.
    If automatic transmission fitted: oil lines (7) and (8) unbolt, bolt on (20 Nm).
    Air scoop remove, install.
    Strut (1) and cross member (2) unbolt, bolt on.
    If AC fitted: bracket, line of air conditioner at bottom left slacken, bolt on.
    If AC fitted: condenser (3) at radiator (4) unbolt, bolt on.
    Condenser (3) raise, lift out of mountings (4b) at radiator (4).
    Installation note 
    Fit on both rubber pads (4a) at bottom of condenser (3), stick on.
    When installing radiator, raise condenser (3) and insert into catches (4b) on radiator (4).
    Radiator (4) remove upward, install.
    Installation note 
    The securing studs of the radiator must be inserted into the rubber pads (19) of the bottom cross member.
    Cooling system fill Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    If automatic transmission fitted: oil level of automatic transmission check, adjust to correct level.
    Cooling system check for leaks Testing cooling system for leaks .
  3. Model 140 

    Preceding work:

    Front engine compartment panel removed

    (Maintenance Manual 6190).

    Coolant at radiator (4) drain Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    Oil lines (7) and (8) of automatic transmission at radiator (4) unbolt, bolt on (20 Nm).
    Coolant hoses (9), (10) and (11) take off, fit on.
    Intake air scoops remove, install (09-0060) .
    Radiator cross panel (2) unbolt, bolt on.
    Locking pin (18) remove, insert.
    Fan shroud ring (6) turn to the left, place over fan, install.
    IMPORTANT
    When installing, ensure the 4 engaging points are correctly located.
    Flat springs (15) pull off upward, install.
    Fan shroud (5) remove, install.
    Installation note 
    When installing, insert retaining catches of fan shroud (5) into the mounting points on the radiator (4).
    Plastic strips (13) on radiator pull off, install.
    Bowden cable of hood lock at radiator (4) detach, attach.
    If AC fitted: radiator (4) unbolt from condenser (3), bolt on.
    Radiator (4) remove upward, install.
    Installation note 
    The fastening studs of the radiator must engage in the rubber pads (19) of the cross member.
    Fan shroud (5) install (20-3400) . bolt on.
    Radiator cross panel (2) Installation note 
    If new radiator (4), adjust positioning strip (20) by hand with adjusting bolt (21). To do this, turn adjusting bolt (21) with radiator cross panel (2) installed until adjusting strip (20) is resting with slight tension against radiator cross panel (2).
    Cooling system fill Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    If automatic transmission fitted: oil level of automatic transmission check, adjust to correct level.
    Cooling system check for leaks. Testing cooling system for leaks .
    TIGHTENING TORQUES IN NM

    Transmission oil hose to radiator (union nut) 20.0
    Hose clip (reference value) 2.5
    Drain plug of radiator (reference value) 1.5
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS AND TESTERS

    Designation e.g. Make, order No.
    7 mm wrench socket hexagon on flexible shaft for hose clip with worm drive e.g. Hazet
    D-5630 Remscheid
    Order No. 426-7
  4. Model 210

    Fan shroud (1) remove, install.
    Coolant at radiator drain Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    Coolant hoses (10, 11, 12) disconnect, connect.
    ATF pipes (7) and (8) of automatic transmission unbolt, bolt on (20 Nm).
    NOTE: Seal ATF pipes (7) and (8) with fitting, see note.
    Fan grille (20) remove, install.
    Flat springs (15) pull off upward, fit on.
    Front member cross panel (2) unbolt, bolt on.
    Cable of hood lock at cross panel (2) detach, attach.
    Intake air scoop (22) remove, install.
    If A/C fitted: condenser at radiator (4) unbolt, bolt on.
    Radiator (4) lift out, install.
    NOTE: The securing studs of the radiator must engage in the rubber pads (19) of the bottom cross member when installed.
    Cooling system fill Draining, pouring in coolant - anti-freeze protection table .
    ATF level of automatic transmission check, adjust to correct level.
    Cooling system check for leaks Testing cooling system for leaks .
    TIGHTENING TORQUES IN NM

    ATF hose of automatic transmission to radiator (union nut) 20
    Hose clips (reference value) 2.5
    Drain plug of radiator (reference value) 1.5
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOL

    Socket hexagon 7 mm on flexible shaft for hose clip with worm drive e.g. Hazet
    42853 Remscheid
    Order no. 426-7
    NOTE: Seal ATF pipes with fitting (01) (shop-made).
