Remove/install engine - AR01.10-P-2400HX

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
1 Remove lower engine compartment paneling    
2 Remove exhaust system    
3 Unclamp battery (120) negative and positive line    
4.1 Detach air intake hose (5) IMPORTANT Naturally aspirated engine  
5.1 Air filter cover (4) IMPORTANT Naturally aspirated engine  
6.1 Remove cover (3 and 7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 140  
7.1 Detach intake hose (2) to turbocharger IMPORTANT Turbocharged engine  
8.1 Unscrew transmission oil lines and seal off with clamps SPECIAL TOOL
IMPORTANT with automatic transmission		 Figure
9.1 Detach cross bridge and strut Model 140, 202  
10.1 Unhook engine hood cable Model 140, 202  
11.1 Remove radiator (16) Model 140 AR20.20-P-3865HW
    Model 202
IMPORTANTCondenser:  Attach guard plate immediately after removing the radiator		 AR20.20-P-3865HA
12 Loosen coolant hoses between engine and chassis    
13.1 Remove fan (14) IMPORTANT Engine 601 in model 124, 201 with magnetic fan clutch ra20006010330x
14.1 Remove viscous fan clutch (15) IMPORTANT Except model 140, 202 AR20.40-P-5660HW
15.1 Remove poly-V belt (13) IMPORTANT If AC fitted AR13.22-P-1202HW
16.1 Detach AC compressor (12) IMPORTANT With AC system, do not unscrew the refrigerant lines at the compressor. Secure the compressor to one side in the engine compartment.  
17 Loosen the vacuum hoses and fuel lines between the engine and the chassis    
18 Unhook Bowden cable from engine control Model 124, 202, 202 except engine 602.96, 603.96 ra30006010325x
    Model 124, 201 with engine 602.96, 603.96 ra30006023402x
19.1 Unclip engine control linkage Model 126 ra300c6021010x
20 Disconnect electrical connecting lines between engine and chassis, connectors and connections    
21 Disconnect oil pressure switch and oil level sensor connector    
22 Disconnect starter connection lines    
23 Disconnect alternator, connectors    
24 Remove engine wiring harness (6)    
25 Suction off steering oil for power steering pump (10) from reservoir and unscrew oil lines SPECIAL TOOL Fig 5
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  Fill power steering pump and bleed: ra46001244080x
26.1 Unscrew pressure oil pump (1) and tandem pump (11) oil lines and hoses between engine and chassis IMPORTANT Vehicles with Level control and /or ASD  
27.1 Unscrew air/oil cooler (9) oil lines and hoses between radiator and engine IMPORTANT Turbocharged engine or naturally aspirated engine with EGR  
28.1 Unscrew transmission air/oil cooler (17) oil lines and hoses between radiator and engine IMPORTANT Turbocharged engine with automatic transmission and trailer equipment in combination with AC system  
29.1 Remove engine stop bracket (25) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Model 201: Check engine stop, adjust. ra22006010220x
30.1 Remove left engine shock absorber (24) IMPORTANT Model 201 (up to 03/85) ra22006010240x
31.1 Remove left and right engine shock absorber (24) IMPORTANT Model 126 ra22006010240x
32 Unclip linkage (20)    
33.1 Unscrew clutch sensor (18) hydraulic line IMPORTANT Manual transmission
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Bleed clutch sensor		  
34.1 Pull out starter lock-out and back-up lamp switch line connection IMPORTANT with automatic transmission  
35.1 Pull out kickdown solenoid valve line connection IMPORTANT with automatic transmission  
36 Unscrew speedometer shaft (19) ad speedometer inductive sensor (L2)    
37 Unscrew speed sensor (L3) and ground strap of starter    
38 Unscrew exhaust-side support (23)    
39.1 Unscrew heat shields (22) at center tunnel IMPORTANT with automatic transmission  
40 Unscrew propeller shaft (492) IMPORTANT See Remove, install propeller shaft

41 Loosen propeller shaft intermediate bearing (495) IMPORTANT See Remove, install propeller shaft

42 Loosen clamping nut (500) at intermediate bearing IMPORTANT For tightening torque see Remove, install propeller shaft for model 124, 126 ra4100107b050x

43 Unscrew cross yoke center piece (50) IMPORTANT Model 126: Replace self-locking hexagon bolts  
44 Secure engine to engine hoist and position horizontally Engine hoist (self-locking) *WE58.40-Z-1012-11A 
    Shackle *WH58.30-Z-1001-07A 
45 Attach guard plate to major assemblies compartment wall    
46 Unscrew rear engine support (26) IMPORTANT Check rubber mounts of adjustment screw AR22.10-P-1160HW
47 Remove right and left hexagon socket screws from front engine mount (28) from below Engine 601 in model 201 up to 03/85
Engine 602 in model 201 up to 03/85
Engine 603 in model 126		 AR22.10-P-1260HZ
    Engine 601 in model 124, 201 as of 04/85
Engine 602 in model 124, 201 as of 04/85
Engine 603 in model 124, 140		 AR22.10-P-1260HX

48 Lift engine out of engine compartment using engine hoist IMPORTANT Installation: Check engine oil level and if necessary top up or refill engine.
Pour in coolant
Inspect cooling system for leaks		 AR20.00-P-1010HA
49 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER
50		 Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near engine
Run engine and inspect for leaks		 Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.		 AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
51 Read fault memory, erase.   AD00.00-P-1000AZ
