Testing ETR Unit & Harness (500SL)

- Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Locate ETR test connector (X11/7) under passenger footrest panel. See Figure and Figure . Disconnect ETR connector (X11/7) from SRS Red 10-pin connector (X11/13).
- To determine if ETR unit or related wiring is faulty, use high impedance DVOM or M-B Multimeter (124-589-19-21-00) to probe ETR connector terminals. See Figure . Probe ETR connector terminals as per "test connection" column of diagnostic chart. See Fig 1 .
- To determine if ETR/seat connection, wiring or ETR unit is faulty, use high impedance DVOM or M-B Multimeter (124-589-19-21-00) to probe ETR/seat connection. ETR/seat connections (X28/8 and X28/9) are located under each seat. See Figure .
- After performing appropriate replacements, activate air bag. Ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
