REMOVINGINSTALLING Removal, installation     
STOP Risk of explosion Observe accident prevention regulations!  
1 Empty fuel tank (75) Carefully pump out fuel so that no fuel remains in tank  
    Observe capacity *BF47.10-P-1001-01A 
2 Remove fuel tank trim and also left and right side trim of trunk    
3 Take off fuel hose at suction end (53), fuel return hose (74) and vent pipe (76/1) IMPORTANT Collect remaining fuel, seal connections  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA47.10-P-1004-01B

4 Remove fuel gauge sender, install   AR47.10-P-7000FA 
5 Remove partition    
6 Push back cover (71) Slacken clip for this step  
7 Remove control module of infrared remote central locking (N54)    
8 Take off vent valve (76) and fuel return hose (74) Detach exhaust system at rubber rings for this step  
9 Disconnect left driveshaft at inner connecting flange   AR35.30-P-0620A
10 Take out fuel tank (75) IMPORTANT Use plastic wedges (arrow) or similar, if necessary, to lever out of opening. Pull fuel tank in car fully to the rear left and take out at the filler neck.  
11 Examine sound-deadening strip (75/5) Replace if necessary. Stick on sound deadening strip (self-adhesive)  
12 Remove fuel strainer (26) INSPECT Clean and check whether it can be re-used
IMPORTANT The splash pot in the fuel tank is secured against turning by 2 bolts. It is attached to the fuel strainer (26). If insufficient space is available, install fuel strainer from below after inserting the fuel tank.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA47.10-P-1001-01B 
13 Replace O-ring (26/1) Oil to facilitate installation  
14 Install in the reverse order
