DTC P0504-00: Brake Switch System: Circuit Malfunction (PYUL)

P0504: 00 (PCM (PYUL)) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location Brake switch system: Circuit malfunction
Detection condition
  • When the state in which the brake switch No. 1 signal and the brake switch No. 2 signal do not match continues for a predetermined time or more and this state is repeated a predetermined number of times.
  • When the brake switch signal does not switch even though the vehicle has been stopped from the specified speed for a prescribed number of times.
Fail-safe
  • Inhibits engine-stop by i-stop control.
Vehicle status when DTCs are output
  • Not applicable
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC .)
  2. Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
    WARNING:
    • To prevent an accident, work with another person when the vehicle is being driven (one person drivesvehicle, other person operates M-MDS).
    • Observe legal speed limits when driving the vehicle and perform the procedure in a location wheresafety can be assured.
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Increase the vehicle speed to 30 km/h {19 mph} (release the brake for more than 3 s), then apply thebrake strongly to slow down and stop (hold the brake down for more than 3 s).
    3. Stop the vehicle for 3 s or more.
    4. Repeat 8 times Step 2 and 3.
Inspection/action procedure
CAUTION:
  • When inspecting the brake switch, perform it with the brake switch not removed from the brake pedalbecause the brake switch will not operate correctly if it is removed. If the brake switch has beenremoved from the brake pedal, replace it with a new one.
  • This DTC may be displayed due to the following DTCs. If the following DTC is displayed, give priority toperforming the inspection/action.
  • Proceed with the inspection/action in the order from Step 1 below.
  • After part repair or replacement, perform the repeatability verifi cation procedure and perform a DTCinspection. (See DTC INSPECTION )
  • If the DTC inspection indicates the same DTC again, go to the next step.
  1. Inspect the sub relay.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Sub relay malfunction

    Referred to service information item 

    See RELAY LOCATION

  2. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the battery and the sub relay.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between battery and sub relay

    Referred to service information item

  3. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the battery and the brake switch.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between battery and brake switch

    Referred to service information item

  4. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the sub relay and the brake switch.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between sub relay and brake switch

    Referred to service information item

  5. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the brake switch and the body ground.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between brake switch and body ground

    Referred to service information item

  6. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the brake switch and the body control module (BCM).

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between brake switch and body control module (BCM)

    Referred to service information item

  7. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the brake switch and the PCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between brake switch and PCM

    Referred to service information item

  8. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the body control module (BCM) and thePCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between body control module (BCM) and PCM

    Referred to service information item

  9. Inspect the brake switch..

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Brake switch malfunction

    Referred to service information item 

    (See BRAKE SWITCH INSPECTION .)

  10. Body control module (BCM) malfunction.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Body control module (BCM) malfunction (applicable part can not be inspected to determine integrity)

    Referred to service information item

  11. Replace the PCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    PCM malfunction (no other possible malfunction considered)
