Intention of troubleshooting procedure

P0014-00 (PCM (PYUL)) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step Inspection Results Action
1 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF SPOOL VALVE IN OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) IS STUCK  Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the oil control valve (OCV) and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [HYDRAULIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
2 PURPOSE: INSPECT ENGINE OIL LEVEL  Yes Go to the next step.
No Add genuine engine oil and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT ] in Service Information).
3 PURPOSE: DETERMINE INTEGRITY OF HYDRAULIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR  Yes Replace the hydraulic variable valve timing actuator and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [HYDRAULIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
No Go to the next step.
4 PURPOSE: VERIFY ASSEMBLY CONDITION OF TIMING CHAIN 
  • Verify the condition of the timing chain assembly (exhaust valve timing, looseness, jumping). (Refer to [TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
  • Is there any malfunction?
Yes Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
Assemble the timing chain using the correct timing. (Refer to [TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
Perform the repair completion verification 1.
No Go to the next step.
5 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF FOREIGN MATTER ON EXHAUST CMP SENSOR DETECTION AREA AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS 
  • Visually inspect for exhaust CMP sensor. (Refer to [CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR INSPECTION ] in Service Information).
  • Is there foreign matter such as metallic dust on the exhaust CMP sensor detection area?
Yes Remove the foreign matter and perform the repair completion verification 1.
No Go to the next step.
6 PURPOSE: INSPECT IF INSUFFICIENT HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAUSED BY USE OF UNSPECIFIED ENGINE OIL 
  • Is the specified engine oil being used?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the engine oil with genuine engine oil.
(Refer to [ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT ] in Service Information).
Perform the [ENGINE OIL DATA RESET] and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [ENGINE OIL DATA RESET ] in Service Information).
7 PURPOSE: INSPECT ENGINE OIL PRESSURE 
  • Inspect the engine oil pressure. (Refer to [OIL PRESSURE INSPECTION ] in Service Information).
  • Is there any malfunction?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Perform the repair completion verification 1.
8 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION RELATED TO ENGINE OIL LEAK OR RESTRICTION AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS 
  • Start the engine.
  • Verify if there is engine oil leakage in the oil passage or restriction.
  • Is there engine oil leakage in the oil passage or restriction?
Yes Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. Add genuine engine oil and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT ] in Service Information).
No Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 1 PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED 
  • Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC )
  • Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
  • Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION )
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] )
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
  • If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step. (Refer to [PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
No Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED 
  • Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION )
  • Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No DTC troubleshooting completed.
