Diagnostic Procedure

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE DISPLAYED IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS EXTREMELY LOWER THAN ACTUAL TEMPERATURE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step Inspection Results Action
1 VERIFY PCM DTCs
  • Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM.

    (See DTC INSPECTION .)

  • Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
(See DTC TABLE [PCM (SKYACTIV-G)] .)
No Go to the next step.
2 INSPECT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the ambient temperature sensor and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR INSPECTION [FULL-AUTO AIR CONDITIONER] , or AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR INSPECTION [MANUAL AIR CONDITIONER] in service information.)
3 INSPECT ACTUAL AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND AMBIENT TEMPERATURE DISPLAYED IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
  • Is the actual ambient temperature the same as the ambient temperature displayed in the instrument cluster?
Yes Troubleshooting completed.
(Explain repair contents to customer.)
No Go to the next step.
4 VERIFY IF PCM IS READING ACTUAL AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
  • Access the following PIDs using the M-MDS.

    (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION .)

    PCM

    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP]
    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP_RAW]
  • Is the PID value the same as the actual ambient temperature?
Yes Go to Step 6.
No Go to the next step.
5 INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND PCM FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Perform the repair completion verification 1.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
6 VERIFY IF PCM IS READING ACTUAL AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
  • Access the following PIDs using the M-MDS.

    (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION .)

    PCM

    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP]
    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP_RAW]
  • Is the PID value the same as the actual ambient temperature?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the PCM and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] , or PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN Y] in service information.)
7 INSPECT ACTUAL AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND AMBIENT TEMPERATURE DISPLAYED IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
  • Is the actual ambient temperature the same as the ambient temperature displayed in the instrument cluster?
Yes Troubleshooting completed.
(Explain repair contents to customer.)
No Go to the next step.
8 PERFORM AMBIENT TEMPERATURE RESET
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 5 min or more. (Refer to NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION in service information.)
  • Connect the negative battery terminal.
  • Access the following PIDs using the M-MDS.

    (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION .)

    PCM

    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP]
    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP_RAW]
  • Is the PID value the same as the ambient temperature displayed in the instrument cluster?
Yes Perform the repair completion verification 1.
No Go to the next step.
9 INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION
  • Inspect the applicable connector and terminal. (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  • Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
10 VERIFY IF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS READING ACTUAL AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
  • Access the following PIDs using the M-MDS.

    (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION .)

    PCM

    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP]
    • [AMB_AIR_TEMP_RAW]
  • Is the PID value the same as the ambient temperature displayed in the instrument cluster?
Yes Perform the repair completion verification 1.
No Replace the instrument cluster and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in service information.)
Repair completion verification 1 VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS CORRECTED
  • Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes Troubleshooting completed.
(Explain repair contents to customer.)
No Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
(See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] .)
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
