Rear Bumper Removal/Installation: Notes

CAUTION:
  • Affix the protective tape to the position (vehicle body side) shown in the figure to prevent scratches and damage.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5] .)
  2. Remove the rear combination light. (See REAR COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Remove the rear splash shield. (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Remove the screw shown in the figure.

  5. Remove the screws and fasteners shown in the figure.

    Sedan (4SD)

    Hatchback (5HB)

  6. Remove the bolts.
    CAUTION:
    • If the rear bumper hooks are detached from the rear bumper slider without supporting the rear bumper, it may fall off and be damaged. Detach the rear bumper hooks from the rear bumper slider using two people, one person supports the rear bumper.
    • Carefully remove the rear bumper from the rear bumper slider. If the rear bumper hooks are detached from the rear bumper slider with excessive force, the rear bumper hooks may be damaged because the rear bumper hooks and the rear bumper slider are engaged firmly.
  7. Detach the rear bumper from the rear bumper sliders while holding the rear end of the rear bumper, moving it in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure, and detaching the hooks.

  8. Hold the shaded area shown in the figure, pull the rear bumper in the direction of the arrow, and detach the rear bumper from the body and the rear bumper bracket.

  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  10. If the rear bumper is replaced, perform the blind spot monitoring (BSM) radar aiming. (With blind spot monitoring system) (See RADAR UNIT AIMING .)
    CAUTION:
    • If the rear bumper installation position is changed or individual differences (coating film/thickness) occur, the blind spot monitoring control module radar angle will deviate which could result in the module not detecting a vehicle approaching from the rear correctly. If the rear bumper is replaced, perform the blind spot monitoring (BSM) radar aiming.
