Liftgate Removal/Installation: Notes

Inner liftgate grommet

Location of use: Liftgate
WARNING:
- Removing the stay damper, liftgate hinge securing bolt, or liftgate without supporting the liftgate may cause the liftgate to fall off and injure you. When removing the stay damper, liftgate hinge, or liftgate, always use two persons to perform the work.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the liftgate upper trim. (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Remove the wiring harness clip.
- Disconnect rear washer hose D.
- Remove the fasteners.
- Remove the weatherstrips.
- Move the liftgate grommet in the directions of the arrows shown in the figure, and remove the liftgate grommet from the inner liftgate grommet.
- Using a remover tool, remove the inner liftgate grommet from the liftgate while pressing the tabs of the inner liftgate grommet in the order of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure. (See Liftgate Grommet Installation Note .)
- Using the remover tool, remove the stay damper securing band in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the liftgate.
- Remove the stud balls. (Only when replacing stud balls)
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Adjust the liftgate. (See LIFTGATE ADJUSTMENT .)
