Transaxle Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Removal/Installation [Aw6A-El]

WARNING:
  • A hot transaxle and ATF can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool.
  1. Remove the control valve body.
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
    2. Remove the air cleaner component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7] .)
    3. Remove the air cleaner bracket.
    4. Remove the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL] .)
    5. Clean the transaxle exterior throughout with a steam cleaner or cleaning solvents
    6. Drain the ATF. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [AW6A-EL] .)
    7. Disconnect the oil hose from the transaxle.
    8. Remove the oil pipe. (See OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL] .)
    9. Remove the control valve body cover
    10. Remove the control valve body. (See CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL] )
  2. Remove the coupler component lock plate
    CAUTION:
    • Do not damage the wiring harness.
    • Do not pull hard on the wiring harness.
  3. Remove the coupler component from the transaxle case

  4. Remove the 0-ring and the gasket from the coupler component
  5. Apply ATF to a new gasket and install it on the coupler component
    CAUTION:
    • Do not apply ATF to the O-ring.

  6. Install a new O-ring to the coupler component.
    CAUTION:
    • Do not apply too much force to the coupler component.
    • Do not damage the coupler component.
  7. Install the coupler component to the transaxle case
  8. Install a new coupler component lock plate.

  9. Install the control valve body. (See CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL] .)
  10. Remove the control valve body cover.
  11. Install the oil pipe. (See OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL] )
  12. Connect the oil hose to the transaxle.
  13. Add ATF. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [AW6A-EL] .)
  14. Install the TCM (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6A-EL] )
  15. Remove the air cleaner bracket.
  16. Install the air cleaner component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7] .)
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18. Perform the "Mechanical System Test" (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST [AW6A-EL] .)
