Oil Seal (Differential) Replacement

CAUTION:
  • Performing the following procedures without first removing the ABS wheel-speed sensor may possibly cause an open circuit in the wiring harness if it is pulled by mistake. Before performing the following procedures, disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor connector (axle side) and fix the wiring Harness to an appropriate place where it will not be pulled toy mistake while servicing the vehicle.
  1. On level ground, jack up the vehicle and support it evenly on safety stands.
  2. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No. 2. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Drain the transaxle oil from the transaxle. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.5] .)
  4. Remove the front tires. (See GENERAL PROCEDURES (SUSPENSION) .)
  5. Remove the splash shields. (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  6. Disconnect the drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle. (See DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  7. Disconnect the drive shaft (RH) from the joint shaft. (See DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  8. Remove the joint shaft. (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  9. Remove the oil seals using a screwdriver.

  10. Using the SSTs  and a hammer, tap each new oil seal in evenly until the SST  contacts the transaxle case.
  11. Coat the lip of each oil seal with transaxle oil.
  12. Install the joint shaft. (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  13. Install the drive shaft (RH) to the joint shaft. (See DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  14. Install the drive shaft (LH) to the transaxle. (See DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  15. Install the splash shields. (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  16. Install the front tires. (See GENERAL PROCEDURES (SUSPENSION) .)
  17. Add the specified amount and type of transaxle oil. (See TRANSAXLE OIL REPLACEMENT .)
  18. Install the aerodynamic under cover No. 2. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
