Removal Note

- Drain the transmission fluid. See
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN (GASKET AND OIL STRAINER) REMOVAL / INSTALLATION ,
.NOTE:
- The control assembly does not need to be removed.
- Disconnect vehicle harness from the 16 pin transmission case electrical connector.
- Remove the transmission oil strainer.
- Remove the transmission oil strainer bolt.
- Remove the transmission oil strainer.
- Remove the main control valve body wire loom.
- Carefully lift up on the wire loom guide and protector and disengage the retaining pins from the solenoid clamps.
- Disconnect the solenoid electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the SS1, SS2, SS3 and the CCS/SS4 electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid electrical connector.
- Disconnect the electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid electrical connector.
CAUTION:- The TCC solenoid and converter modulator valve may pop out of its bore. This may damage the solenoid or converter modulator valve.
Shift solenoids may pop out of their bore. This may damage the solenoids.
- Remove the EPC and SS2 solenoids.
- Remove the solenoid clamp bolts.
- Remove the solenoid clamp.
- Remove the EPC and SS2 solenoids.
CAUTION:- Do not pry on the other wires or damage the connector case surface.
- Disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector from the 16 pin transmission case electrical connector.
- Disconnect the TSS sensor electrical connector.
- Remove from the TSS sensor wire locator.
CAUTION:- Do not overstretch the retaining spring.
- Remove the 16 pin transmission case electrical connector retaining spring.
CAUTION:
- Do not damage the connector or harness.
- Remove the 16 pin transmission case electrical connector.
- Compress the tabs on the 16 pin transmission case electrical connector.
- Push the 16 pin transmission case electrical connector out of transmission case.
