Water Pump Removal / Installation - 3.0L: Removal

  1. Drain engine coolant. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT - 3.0L  .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. See AIR CLEANER OUTLET TUBE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
  3. Remove the drive belt. See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
  4. Remove the cooling fan and fan shroud. See COOLING FAN AND CLUTCH REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L  .
  5. Remove the water pump pulley.
  6. Disconnect the heater hose and the wiring harness anchor.
  7. Remove the nut and detach the battery cable bracket
  8. Remove the side stud bolts from the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
  9. Disconnect the bypass hose.
  10. Remove the bolt and the drive belt tensioner.
  11. Remove the bolts and position the mounting bracket and A/C compressor aside.
    NOTE:
    • Use care when scraping aluminum surfaces because gouging could form leak paths.
  12. Remove the bolts and remove the water pump.
  13. Clean the sealing surfaces.
