Removal and Installation

    Both sides 

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. See BATTERY DISCONNECT .
  2. Remove the fan shroud. See FAN SHROUD REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L .
  3. Remove the bolt and use it to install the engine lifting eye SST  .

    Tightening Torque 42 Nm {4.3 kgf-m, 31 ft-lbf}

  4. Remove the bolt.

  5. Install the engine lifting eye SST using the previously removed bolt.

    Tightening Torque 28 Nm {2.9 kgf-m, 21 ft-lbf} 

  6. LH side 

  7. Remove the LH engine support insulator-to-LH engine bracket nuts.

    Tightening Torque 110 Nm {11.2 kgf-m, 81 ft-lbf} 

  8. RH side 

  9. Remove the RH engine support insulator-to-RH engine bracket nuts.

    Tightening Torque 110 Nm {11.2 kgf-m, 81 ft-lbf} 

    Both sides

    NOTE:
    • LH shown, RH similar.
  10. Remove the 2 radiator bolts.

    Tightening Torque 7 Nm {0.7 kgf-m, 62 in-lbf}

  11. Install the engine 3-bar support kit SST  and raise the engine until the engine brackets clear the engine support insulator studs.

    NOTE:
    • RH shown, LH similar.
  12. Remove the fenderwell splash shields.
  13. LH side 

  14. If equipped, remove the LH front coil spring. See SPRING .
    NOTE:
    • Some vehicles are equipped with a 2-piece dual converter Y-pipe (LH and RH).
  15. If equipped with a front axle, remove the dual converter Y-pipe. See THREE-WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L .

    WARNING:
    • Secure the axle to the jack with a safety strap. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    NOTE:
    • Driveshaft shown removed for clarity.
  16. If equipped, secure the axle housing to a suitable jack.

    CAUTION:
    • Any time bolts, washers, spacers or nuts are loosened in the differential support for any reason, install new components to prevent damage.
  17. If equipped, remove and discard the front axle housing support bolts and nuts.

    Tightening Torque 66 Nm {6.7 kgf-m, 49 ft-lbf}

  18. If equipped, remove and discard the axle housing bolt and nut.

    Tightening Torque 66 Nm {6.7 kgf-m, 49 ft-lbf}

  19. Lower the axle housing 25 mm (1 in).
  20. Remove the LH engine support insulator-to-frame nut.

    Tightening Torque: 90 Nm {9.2 kgf-m, 66 ft-lbf} (vehicles built through 12/2005) 103 Nm {10.5 kgf-m, 76 ft-lbf} (vehicles built after 12/2005) 

  21. Remove the LH engine support insulator.
  22. If necessary, remove the wiring harness bracket from the LH engine bracket.
  23. If necessary, remove the 4 bolts and the LH engine bracket.

    Tightening Torque: 62 Nm {6.3 kgf-m, 46 ft-lbf} 

  24. RH side 

  25. If equipped, remove the RH front coil spring. See SPRING ..
  26. Remove the RH engine support insulator-to-frame nut.

    Tightening Torque: 90 Nm {9.2 kgf-m, 66 ft-lbf} (vehicles built through 12/2005) 103 Nm {10.5 kgf-m, 76 ft-lbf} (vehicles built after 12/2005) 

  27. Remove the RH engine support insulator.
  28. If necessary, remove the bolts and the RH engine bracket.

    Tightening Torque: 62 Nm {6.3 kgf-m, 46 ft-lbf} 

  29. Both sides 

  30. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
