Exhaust Manifold Removal/Installation - 2.3L

  1. With the vehicle in Neutral, position it on a hoist. See LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the exhaust flange nuts.

  4. Remove the drive belt. See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.3L .
  5. Drain the cooling system. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT - 2.3L .
  6. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the engine reservoir hose.

  7. Remove the A/C compressor. See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.3L .
  8. Disconnect the heater water hose.

  9. Remove the oil indicator and the upper bolt for the tube assembly.

  10. Remove the lower bolt and remove the oil indicator tube assembly.

  11. Remove the bolts and the front radiator tube.

  12. Remove the pushpins and position the right inner fender splash shield out of the way.

  13. Disconnect the alternator electrical connectors.

  14. Remove the lower front end accessory drive (FEAD) mounting bolts.

  15. Remove the upper mounting bolt and the FEAD assembly.

  16. Remove the two nuts and position the coolant tube out of the way.

  17. Remove the nuts and the exhaust manifold.

  18. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.

  19. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
