DTC B1458, B1460: Washer Pump Inoperative

DTC B1458, B1460 - WASHER PUMP INOPERATIVE

DTC B1458, B1460 WASHER PUMP IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH INPUT TO THE SJB
  • Monitor the SJB PID washer while pressing and releasing the washer switch.
  • Does the SJB PID washer agree with the switch positions?
Yes Go to step 4.
No Go to step 2.
2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect multifunction switch connector 0914-105.
  • Measure the resistance between multifunction switch pin 5 circuit W/B and pin 6 circuit B, component side, while pressing and releasing the washer switch.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the washer switch pressed and greater than 10,000 ohms with the washer switch released?
Yes Go to step 3.
No Replace the multifunction switch.
See MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK W/B WIRE FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect SJB connector J-2280d.

Measure the resistance between multifunction switch connector 0914-105 pin 5 W/B, harness side and SJB connector J-2280d pin 14 W/B, harness side.

  • Measure the resistance between multifunction switch connector 0914-105 pin 6 circuit B, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between components, and greater than 10K ohms to ground?
Yes Go to step 11.
No Repair W/B wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK POWER TO WASHER PUMP
  • Connect all disconnected connectors.
  • Disconnect washer pump motor 0919-102.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between washer pump motor connector 0919-102 pin 1, circuit B/W, harness side and ground, while pressing and releasing the washer switch.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the washer switch pressed, and 0 volts with the washer switch released?
Yes Go to step 5.
No Go to step 6.
5 CHECK B WIRE AT WASHER PUMP MOTOR FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure the resistance between washer pump motor connector 0919-102 pin 2, circuit B, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Replace the washer pump motor.
See WASHER PUMP AND RESERVOIR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair B wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER RELAY
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect wiper/washer relay from engine compartment fuse box.
  • Check the wiper/washer relay. See WIPER/WASHER RELAY COMPONENT TEST .
  • Is the washer pump relay OK?
Yes Go to step 7.
No Replace the washer pump relay. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK B/W WIRE AT WASHER PUMP MOTOR FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Measure the resistance between washer pump motor connector 0919-102 pin 1 circuit B/W, harness side and washer pump relay pin 3 circuit B/W, harness side.
  • Measure the resistance between washer pump motor connector 0919-102 pin 1 circuit B/W, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between components, and greater than 10K ohms to ground?
Yes Go to step 8.
No Repair B/W wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
8 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE WASHER PUMP RELAY - R WIRE
  • Measure the voltage between washer pump relay pin 5 circuit R, harness side and ground, and between washer pump relay pin 1 circuit R, harness side and ground.
  • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to step 9.
No Repair the appropriate R wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
9 CHECK CIRCUIT T/R FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect SJB connector J-2280a.
  • Measure the resistance between washer pump relay pin 1 circuit T/R, harness side and SJB connector J-2280a pin 12 circuit T/R, harness side.
  • Measure the resistance between washer pump relay pin 2 circuit T/R, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between components, and greater than 10K ohms to ground?
Yes Go to step 10.
No Repair T/R wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
10 CHECK T/R WIRE FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between washer pump relay pin 1 circuit T/R, harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage indicated?
Yes Repair T/R wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 11.
11 CHECK SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes Replace the SJB.
See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
