Symptom Troubleshooting Chart - Backup Lamps

SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - BACKUP LAMPS

Problem Possible Cause Action
  • Backup lamps are inoperative
  • Circuitry
  • Digital transmission range (TR) sensor (A/T)
  • Backup lamp switch (M/T)
  • Smart junction box (SJB)
  • Backup lamp is inoperative (Individual)
  • Circuitry
  • MEASURE the resistance between the inoperative backup lamp connector pin 1, circuit B harness side and ground.
    • If the resistance is less than 5 ohms, Repair circuit B/P. Test the system for normal operation.
    • If the resistance is not less than 5 ohms, Repair circuit B. Test the system for normal operation.
  • Backup tamps are on continuously
  • Circuitry
  • Digital transmission range (TR) sensor (A/T)
  • Backup lamp switch (M/T)
  • DISCONNECT the digital TR sensor 0140-05 (automatic transmission) or the backup lamp switch C169 (manual transmission).
    • If the backup lamps continue to illuminate, Repair circuit B/P. Test the system for normal operation.
    • If the backup lamps do not continue to illuminate, Install a new digital TR sensor or backup lamp switch. Test the system for normal operation.
