Ignition Timing Inspection

- Perform ENGINE TUNE-UP PREPARATION .
- Connect the DLC terminals TEN and GND using a jumper wire.CAUTION:
- Connecting the wrong DLC terminal may possibly cause a malfunction. Carefully connect the specified terminal only.
- Verify that the RPM PID is within the specification.
- If not as specified, adjust the idle speed. (See
IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT .)
Specification
650-750 (700+/-50) rpm
- Connect the timing light to the high-tension lead of the No.1 cylinder.
- Verify that the timing mark (yellow) on the crankshaft pulley is within the specification.
- If not as specified, inspect following.
- CMP sensor
- CKP sensor
- TP sensor
- ECT sensor
- Neutral switch (MTX)
- Clutch switch (MTX)
- TR switch (ATX)
- If the devices are normal, replace the PCM. (See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .)
Ignition timing
BTDC 9°-11° (10°+/-1°) (TIMING MARK [YELLOW])
- If not as specified, inspect following.
- Disconnect the jumper wire.
- Verify that the idle speed is within the specification.
- If not as specified, adjust the idle speed.
- Connect the timing light to the high-tension lead of the No.1 cylinder.
- Verify that the timing mark (yellow) on the crankshaft pulley is within the specification.
- If not as specified, inspect the following.
- CMP sensor
- CKP sensor
- TP sensor
- ECT sensor
- Neutral switch (MTX)
- Clutch switch (MTX)
- TR switch (ATX)
- If the devices are normal, replace the PCM. (See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .)
- If not as specified, inspect the following.
Ignition timing
BTDC 6°-18° (TIMING MARK [YELLOW])
- If not as specified, adjust the idle speed. (See
IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT .)
