DTC 35: Right Side Air Bag Sensor Communication Error

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect left side air bag sensor connector. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check Green wire between SAS control module connector 3L and right side air bag sensor connector terminal "A" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. See Figure & Figure . Check Light Green wire between SAS control module connector 3J and right side air bag sensor connector terminal "B" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit.
  2. Check Gray wire between SAS control module connector 3H and right side air bag sensor connector terminal "C" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. Check Red wire between SAS control module connector 3G and right side air bag sensor connector terminal "D" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. If wiring is okay and this is present DTC, go to next step. If wiring is okay and this is past DTC, replace right side air bag sensor. Go to step  5. If wiring is defective, replace wiring harness. Go to step  5.
  3. Measure resistance between right side air bag sensor terminals "C" and "D". See Figure. If resistance is about 1000 ohms, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step. If resistance is not about 1000 ohms, replace right side air bag sensor. Go to step  5.
  4. Reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Turn ignition on and check DTC. If DTC 35 is displayed, replace right side air bag sensor. Go to next step. If DTC 35 is not displayed, test is complete. Go to next step.
  5. Reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Perform SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Ensure AIR BAG warning light is operating properly. If not, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
