DTC 22: Left Side Air Bag Sensor Internal Circuit
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda Millenia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect left side air bag sensor connector. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check White wire between SAS control module connector 3B and left side air bag sensor connector terminal "A" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. See Figure & Fig 1 . Check Brown wire between SAS control module connector 3D and left side air bag sensor connector terminal "B" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit.
- Check White/Red wire between SAS control module connector 3F and left side air bag sensor connector terminal "C" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. Check Blue wire between SAS control module connector 3E and left side air bag sensor connector terminal "D" for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. If wiring is okay and this is present DTC, go to next step. If wiring is okay and this is past DTC, replace left side air bag sensor. Go to step 6. If wiring is defective, replace wiring harness. Go to step 6.
- Ensure ignition is off. Check for continuity between SAS control module terminals No. 3F and 2Q. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 6.
- Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Leave air bag sensor disconnected. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and left side air bag sensor connector terminal "A" (White wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is about 5 volts, replace left side air bag sensor. Go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, replace SAS control module. Go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Remove negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute. Reconnect left side air bag sensor. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on and check DTC. If DTC 22 is displayed, replace SAS control module. Go to next step. If DTC 22 is not displayed, test is complete. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Perform SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Ensure AIR BAG warning light is operating properly. If not, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
