Diagnostic Procedure

- Has FREEZE FRAME PID DATA been recorded? If yes, go to next step. If no, record FREEZE FRAME PID DATA on repair order, then go to next step.
- Check for related service bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability. Is any related repair information available? If no, go to next step. If yes, perform repair or diagnosis according to available repair information. If vehicle is still not repaired, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect transaxle connector No. 2 (8-pin). See Figure. Check for poor connection (damaged or pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.). Are terminals okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair or replace terminals, then go to step 12.
- Inspect resistance of intermediate speed sensor at transaxle connector No. 2. See INTERMEDIATE SPEED SENSOR under COMPONENT TESTS. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not okay, go to step 8.
- Disconnect TCM connector. Check for poor connection (damaged or pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.). Are terminals okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair terminals, then go to step 12.
- Check continuity between following terminals:
- Transaxle connector No. 2 terminal "C" and TCM terminal 1K.
- Transaxle connector No. 2 terminal "D" and TCM terminal 1X.
Is there continuity? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair or replace harness, then go to step 12.
- Check continuity between following terminals:
- Transaxle connector No. 2 terminal "C" and ground.
- Transaxle connector No. 2 terminal "D" and ground.
Is there continuity? If yes, repair or replace harness, then go to next step. If no, go to next step.
- Remove the control valve body cover. Disconnect coupler connector (8-pin). Check for poor connection (damaged or pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.). Are terminals okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair connector terminals, then go to step 12.
- Measure resistance between terminals "C" and "D" on coupler connector (8-pin). Is resistance within 513-627 ohms? If yes, repair or replace transaxle connector (component side), then go to step 12. If no, go to next step.
- Disconnect intermediate speed sensor connector. Check for poor connection (damaged or pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.). Are terminals okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair or replace terminals, then go to step 12.
- Inspect resistance of intermediate speed sensor at component connector. See INTERMEDIATE SPEED SENSOR under COMPONENT TESTS. If resistance is okay, repair or replace coupler connector (8-pin), go to next step. If resistance is not okay, verify intermediate speed sensor installation. If intermediate speed sensor is installed correctly, replace intermediate speed sensor, then go to next step.
- Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors. Clear DTC from memory. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Drive vehicle with vehicle speed 25 MPH or above with engine speed 1500 RPM or above for 2 seconds or more. Come to stop and repeat procedure 2 more times. Is same DTC present? If yes, replace TCM. See TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, repair is complete.
