Diagnostic Procedure

- Has FREEZE FRAME PID DATA been recorded? If yes, go to next step. If no, record FREEZE FRAME PID DATA on repair order, then go to next step.
- Check for related service bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability. Is any related repair information available? If no, go to next step. If yes, perform repair or diagnosis according to available repair information. If vehicle is still not repaired, go to next step.
- Using voltmeter to backprobe TCM connector, measure voltage at terminal 1F. Turn ignition key to ON position (engine OFF). Is TCM terminal voltage 1.55 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 6.
- Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor TFT sensor voltage. Drive vehicle at 37 MPH or above for 10 minutes or more. TFT sensor voltage should decrease as fluid temperature increases. Does TCM terminal voltage change as specified? If yes, go to step 6. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check for poor connection (damaged or pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.). Are terminals okay? If yes, replace TFT sensor. See appropriate SERVICING article. If no, repair as needed and go to next step.
- Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors. Clear DTC from memory. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Decrease ATF temperature to 68°F (20°C) or less. Drive vehicle at 37 MPH or above for 10 minutes or more. Is same DTC present? If yes, replace TCM. See TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, repair is complete.
