Diagnostic Procedure

- Record FREEZE FRAME PID data. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, access TCC CON PID from PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD menu. Using scan tool SIMULATION function, actuate TCC CON PID. An audible "click" should be heard from TCC solenoid. If TCC solenoid clicks when actuated, check connectors, terminals and wiring harnesses for intermittent concern. Repair as necessary, then go to next step. If TCC solenoid does not click when actuated, disconnect transaxle 10-pin harness connector and check connector for damage or pulled out terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary. If transaxle connector is okay, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between chassis ground and transaxle connector (component side) terminal "D". See Figure. If resistance is not 11-27 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 11-27 ohms, disconnect PCM connector and check PCM connector for damage or pulled out terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary. If PCM connector is okay, check for continuity between transaxle harness connector terminal "D" and PCM harness connector terminal 2C. See Figure and Figure . If continuity exists, leave transaxle connector disconnected and go to step 4. If continuity does not exist, repair open in affected circuit between PCM and transaxle.
- Check TCC control solenoid connector for damage or pulled out terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary. If TCC control solenoid connector is okay, measure resistance between chassis ground and TCC control solenoid terminal "D". If resistance is 11-27 ohms, replace transaxle internal harness. If resistance is not 11-27 ohms, replace faulty TCC control solenoid.
- Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, check for voltage between chassis ground and transaxle 10-pin harness connector terminal "D". See Figure. If voltage is present, repair short to ground in affected circuit between PCM and transaxle. If voltage is not present, turn ignition switch to OFF position and check for continuity between chassis ground and PCM harness connector terminal 2C. See Figure. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in affected circuit between PCM and transaxle. If continuity does not exist, check connectors, terminals and wiring harnesses for intermittent concern. Repair as necessary, then go to next step.
- Start engine. Road test vehicle, ensuring transaxle shifts smoothly through all gears and TCC engages. Determine if DTC P1743 is still present. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If serviced DTC resets, replace PCM. If DTC does not reset, repair is complete.
