Off-Vehicle Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626 and 2001 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove valve body cover. Disconnect TFT sensor connector. Remove TFT sensor. See Fig 1. Connect DVOM test leads to TFT sensor terminals. Place TFT sensor and a thermometer in a container of ATF and heat ATF gradually. DO NOT allow thermometer or TFT sensor to touch bottom of container. Monitor thermometer and ohmmeter readings. Resistance should decrease as fluid temperature rises. See TRANSAXLE FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not within specification, replace TFT sensor. If resistance is within specification, repair or replace transaxle internal harness to TFT sensor as necessary.
