Cylinder Head Gasket Replacement: Notes

WARNING:
  • Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
  • Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE .
  1. Remove the timing belt. See TIMING BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the front pipe. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS] .)
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4. Remove the accelerator cable. (See ACCELERATOR CABLE ADJUSTMENT [FS] .) (See ACCELERATOR CABLE INSPECTION [FS] .)
  5. Disconnect the fuel hose.
  6. Remove the ignition coil.
  7. Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT .)
  8. Remove in the order indicated in Fig 1.
  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  10. Verify the engine oil level. (See ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION .)
  11. Inspect for the engine oil, engine coolant, and fuel leakage.
  12. Verify the compression. (See COMPRESSION INSPECTION .)
  13. Start the engine and
    1. Inspect the pulleys and the drive belt for runout and contact.
    2. Verify the ignition timing. See IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION .
    3. Verify the idle speed. See IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT .
