Pinpoint Test A : The Rear Video Is Inoperative

Refer to Audio System/Navigation - MKZ Harman Revel Ultima Audio System , Audio System/Navigation - MKZ With Harman Revel or Audio System/Navigation - MKZ Without Harman Revel for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

REFER to: Parking Aid - System Operation and Component Description .

BCM DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B115E:01 Camera Module: General Electrical Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when an internal electrical failure is detected from the camera.
B115E:02 Camera Module: General Signal Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when invalid LIN data is received from the video camera.
B115E:08 Camera Module: Bus Signal/Message Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when there is a LIN communication fault from the video camera.

APIM DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
C1001:01 Vision System Camera: General Electrical Failure A continuous DTC that sets in the APIM when no video signal is detected from the video camera when the vehicle is in REVERSE.

Possible Sources 

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-Checks 

  1. A1 CHECK AND CLEAN THE REAR VIDEO CAMERA LENS

    • Clean and make sure the rear video camera lens is clear of any debris.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Test the video camera system and verify the video camera image.

    Is the video camera concern still present? 

    Yes  GO to  A2
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was caused by a dirty video camera lens.
  2. A2 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEAR INPUT

    • While monitoring the IPC PRNDL indicator, momentarily select each gear in the entire range.

    Does the PRNDL indicator match the gear selection? 

    Yes  GO to  A3
    No  REFER to: Parking Aid Camera .
  3. A3 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved? 

    Yes  For BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B115E:01, B115E:02 or B115E:08, GO to  A15 For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to the DTC Chart(s)  .
    No  GO to  A4
  4. A4 PERFORM THE APIM (SYNC MODULE) RESET

    • Test the system to determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  GO to  A5
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by an intermittent APIM concern.
  5. A5 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE APIM (SYNC MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the APIM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved? 

    Yes  For DTC C1001:01, GO to  A7 For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment System article for the procedure.
    No  GO to  A6
  6. A6 VERIFY AND ENABLE THE INOPERATIVE VIDEO CAMERA FEATURE

    • Verify and enable the inoperative video camera feature within the FDIM. Refer to the Owner's Literature.

    Does the video camera feature operate correctly? 

    Yes  The rear video camera system is operating correctly at this time. The video camera feature concern was caused by the feature being disabled. INSTRUCT the customer on how to enable and disable the rear video camera features. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
    No  GO to  A7
  7. A7 CHECK THE VIDEO DISPLAY

    • Observe the FDIM or FCDIM display while placing the vehicle in reverse.

    • Wait 30 seconds.

    Does the display switch to video camera mode and display REAR VIDEO CAMERA IS UNAVAILABLE PLEASE CONTACT YOUR DEALERSHIP? 

    Yes  GO to  A8
    No  Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment System article for the procedure.
  8. A8 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE VIDEO CAMERA

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Rear Video Camera C4360.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A9
    No  INSPECT BJB fuse 23 (15A). If the fuse is OK, repair the circuit for an open. If the fuse is not OK, REFER to the Introduction to identify the possible causes of the short circuit.
  9. A9 CHECK FOR GROUND TO THE VIDEO CAMERA

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A10
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  10. A10 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Disconnect APIM C2383A.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  A11
  11. A11 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A12
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  12. A12 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VIDEO SHIELD

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A13
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  13. A13 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A14
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  14. A14 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Disconnect BCM C2280D.

    • Disconnect: AC/DC Inverter C3501 (if equipped with a 110 volt AC power outlet.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  A15
  15. A15 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is resistance less than 3 ohms ' 

    Yes  GO to  A16
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  16. A16 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A17
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  17. A17 CHECK FOR CORRECT VIDEO CAMERA OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the rear video camera connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the rear video camera connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new video camera. REFER to: Parking Aid Camera .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
