Passenger Airbag: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to health and safety warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

If a SRS fault is present, continue to Step 3. Otherwise, turn the ignition OFF, wait at least one minute and continue to Step 4.
Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
Position the front door weather-strip aside, release the clips and remove the RH instrument panel finish panel.

Remove the retainers and the RH insulation panel.

1. Remove the glove compartment screws.
  Torque
  
  : 18 lb.in (2 Nm)
2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the bolts.
Torque

: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

1. Remove the nuts and the passenger airbag bracket.

2. If equipped. Remove the nuts and the insulator.

Remove the instrument panel screws.

Remove the screws and position the bracket out of the way.
Torque

: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

Remove the passenger airbag nuts.
Torque

: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

Position the bracket aside, drop the front of the passenger airbag down and remove the passenger airbag.
