Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering 

Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

Depower 

1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to Safety Warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
   WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death.
   NOTE: The airbag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
   NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

2. Turn all vehicle accessories OFF.
3. Turn the ignition OFF.
4. At the BCM, located on the bulkhead below the glove box, remove the RCM fuse 86 (10A) from the BCM. Refer to OEM FUSE AND RELAY LOCATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) Information for schematic and connector information.
5. Turn the ignition ON and monitor the airbag warning indicator for at least 30 seconds. The airbag warning indicator remains lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse is removed. If the airbag warning indicator is not lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding.
6. Turn the ignition OFF.
7. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

   Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

8. Wait at least one minute before continuing vehicle service.

Repower 

1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to Safety Warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
   WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death.
   NOTE: The airbag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
   NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

   Vehicles with Push-Button Start 

2. Install RCM fuse 86 (10A) in the BCM.
3. WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any airbag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

   Connect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

4. Remove the BJB cover.
5. NOTE: This step directs accessing circuits using a backprobe method. Use the special backprobe tool specified in the tool list in this article. Do not force test leads or other probes into connectors. Adequate care must be exercised to avoid connector terminal damage while ensuring that good electrical contact is made with the circuit terminal. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to wiring, terminals, or connectors and subsequent electrical faults.
   NOTE: Take extra care to make sure that the correct connector terminal is back-probed. Failure to probe the correct terminal may result in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) set in multiple modules or damage to the vehicle.

   Install a backprobe pin and 5-amp fused jumper wire at connector C1035C, pin 2, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). Refer to OEM FUSE AND RELAY LOCATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) Information for schematic and connector information. Refer to POWER DISTRIBUTION for schematic and connector information. 6. NOTE: Follow the directions in the following step carefully. Failure to follow the directions as detailed below may result in DTCs set in multiple modules or damage to the vehicle.
   NOTE: This step simulates pressing the start/stop switch by providing momentary voltage to the start/stop switch circuit.

   Using the other end of the fused jumper wire, momentarily touch the fused jumper wire to the positive battery terminal.

7. Remove the fused jumper wire and backprobe pin from connector C1035C, pin 2, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). Install the BJB cover.

   Vehicles without Push-Button Start 

8. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON.
9. Install RCM fuse 86 (10A) in the BCM.
10. WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any airbag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

    Connect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

    All vehicles 

11. Prove out the SRS: Turn the ignition from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition back to ON and monitor the airbag warning indicator with the airbags installed. The airbag warning indicator illuminates continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turns off. If a SRS fault is present, the airbag warning indicator either fails to light, remains lit continuously or flashes.
12. The flashing may not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition has been turned from OFF to ON. This is the time required for the RCM to complete the testing of the SRS. If the airbag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists, a message will display in the IPC indicating that a SRS fault is present. If this occurs, diagnose and repair the airbag warning indicator and any SRS faults.
13. Using a scan tool, clear all Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.
