Driver Knee Airbag: Removal

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to Safety Warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Follow the health and safety precautions. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions .
WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
If a SRS fault is present, continue to Step 3. Otherwise, turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to Step 4.
Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
Position the steering column in the full up position.

If equipped. Remove the CPP switch. Refer to: Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) Switch 1.0L EcoBoost . Refer to: Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) Switch 2.0L Duratec-HE . Refer to: Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) Switch 2.0L EcoBoost . Refer to: Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) Switch 2.3L EcoBoost .
Remove the stoplamp switch. Refer to: Stoplamp Switch .
Remove the LH instrument panel finish panel.

Through the LH instrument panel finish panel opening, locate the driver knee airbag nuts.

Remove the nuts.
Torque

: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

1. Through the opening, push the tabs down and detach the clips.
2. Pivot the driver knee airbag down and separate it from the knee bolster.

Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the driver knee airbag.
