Pinpoint Test D : CPP (Clutch Pedal Position) Switch "B" Circuit Diagnosis
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- D1 CHECK THE CPP (CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION) SWITCH (CPP_TOP) PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID)
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view PCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Monitor the PCM PID CPP_TOP while pressing and releasing the clutch pedal.
Does the Parameter Identification (PID) value read "YES" with the clutch pedal pressed, and "NO' with the clutch pedal released?
Yes GO to D4 No For Parameter Identification (PID) always reads "NO", GO to Pinpoint Test C For Parameter Identification (PID) always reads "YES", GO to D2 - D2 CHECK THE CPP (CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION) SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect:
- Measure:
2.0L Duratec-HE:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C175B-43 Ground 1.0L or 2.0L EcoBoost:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1381B-6 Ground 2.3L GTDI (RS):
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1926B-6 Ground
Is the resistance value greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to D4 No GO to D3 - D3 CHECK THE CPP (CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION) SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE CPP (CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION) SWITCH DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect the -CPP switch connector C277
- Disconnect:
- Measure:
2.0L Duratec-HE:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C175B-43 Ground 1.0L or 2.0L EcoBoost:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1381B-6 Ground 2.3L GTDI (RS):
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1926B-6 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes Install a new CPP switch. No Repair the circuit short to ground - D4 RECHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Using a scan-tool clear the PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Repeat the PCM self-test.
Are any PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes INSTALL a new PCM. For vehicles equipped with a 1.0L EcoBoost engine: REFER to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . For vehicles equipped with a 2.0L Duratec-HE engine: REFER to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . For vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine: REFER to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . For vehicles equipped with a 2.3L GTDI engine (RS): REFER to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . No GO to D5 - D5 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all PCM and related in-line connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the PCM and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSB addresses this concern, Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
