Pinpoint Test R : The Brake Warning Indicator Is Always On: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Refer to Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

See Brake Warning Indicator, Park Position Detect Switch and Brake Fluid Level Switch. REFER to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) - SYSTEM OPERATION AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION

NOTE: The ABS warning indicator, stability-traction control indicator (sliding car icon), stability-traction control disabled (sliding car OFF icon) and the brake warning indicator illuminate if the input to illuminate the brake warning indicator is sent by the ABS module.

If the brake warning request message is missing from the BCM for more than a programmed length of time, the BCM and the IPC set DTC U0121:00 and defaults the brake warning indicator on.

If the parking brake warning request or brake fluid level low message are missing from the BCM for more than the programmed preset time, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 and defaults the brake warning indicator on.

BCM DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B1048:13 Brake Fluid Level Switch: Circuit Open An on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when the BCM detects an open on the brake fluid level switch input.
C1D00:23 Park Brake Apply Switch: Signal Stuck Low An on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM if the BCM detects a short to ground on the parking brake input circuit.

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

Inspect the base brake system and the parking brake system for correct operation. Check for signs of connector terminal damage, corrosion, bent or damaged pins. Inspect the brake fluid level switch for signs of any external damage. Verify the parking brake is fully released and the brake fluid is not low prior to carrying out the diagnostics.
