4th-Reverse Gear Synchronizer: Removal

- Compare the synchronizer friction ring clearance measured in transmission disassembly to the specification. If the clearance is not within specification, install a new synchronizer assembly. Refer to: Specifications .
Use the General Equipment: Feeler Gauge
- Compare the shift fork hub sleeve clearance measured in transmission disassembly to the specification. If the clearance is not within specification, install a new synchronizer assembly and a new shift fork. Refer to: Specifications .

- Remove the 3rd Gear Synchronizer. Refer to: 3rd Gear Synchronizer .
- Remove the 3rd gear roller bearing.
- Remove the 4th gear retainer and split washer.
- Remove 4th gear.
- Remove the 4th gear roller bearing.
- Remove the 4th gear friction ring.
- Remove and discard the 4th gear-reverse synchronizer snap ring.
- Using the special tool, remove the 4th gear-reverse synchronizer assembly. Use Special Service Tool: 307-581 Manual lever seal installer. Use the General Equipment: Bearing Separator. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
- Remove the reverse gear roller bearing.
