3rd Gear Synchronizer: Removal

- Disassemble the transmission. Refer to: Transmission .
- Compare the synchronizer friction ring clearance measured in transmission disassembly to the specification. If the clearance is not within specification, install a new synchronizer assembly. Refer to: Specifications .
Use the General Equipment: Feeler Gauge
- Compare the shift fork hub sleeve clearance measured in transmission disassembly to the specification. If the clearance is not within specification, install a new synchronizer assembly and a new shift fork. Refer to: Specifications .

- Remove and discard the rear bearing snap ring.
- Using the special tool, press the 3rd gear and 3rd gear synchronizer hub off of the output shaft. Use Special Service Tool: 307-581 Manual lever seal installer. Use the General Equipment: Bearing Separator. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
