1st-5th Gear Synchronizer: Removal

- Disassemble the transmission. Refer to: Transmission .
- Compare the synchronizer friction ring clearance measured in transmission disassembly to the specification. If the clearance is not within specification, install a new synchronizer assembly. Refer to: Specifications .
Use the General Equipment: Feeler Gauge
- Compare the shift fork hub sleeve clearance measured in transmission disassembly to the specification. If the clearance is not within specification, install a new synchronizer assembly and a new shift fork. Refer to: Specifications .

- Remove and discard the rear bearing snap ring.
- Using the special tool, remove the rear bearing and 1st gear. Use Special Service Tool: 307-581 Manual lever seal installer. Use the General Equipment: Bearing Separator. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
- Remove the 1st gear roller bearing.
- Remove the 1st gear friction ring.
- Remove and discard the 1-5 synchronizer snap ring.
- Using the special tool, remove the 1-5 synchronizer hub and collar assembly and 5th gear. Use Special Service Tool: 307-581 Manual lever seal installer. Use the General Equipment: Bearing Separator. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
