Front Halfshaft LH - 2.3L EcoBoost (257kW/350PS) - MI4: Installation

Inspect the outboard end of the halfshafts.

NOTE: Make sure new component is installed.

Install the new halfshaft retaining circlip.

NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18°.

NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45°.

NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.
1. Using seal protector. Install the halfshaft splines through the seal protector and remove the seal protector.
2. NOTE: Do not fully install shaft at this time.

NOTE: Insert shaft until circlip is fully seated. When checking if circlip is seated, apply pulling force to the tulip housing only. Do not pull on CV joints or damage can result.

Insert the halfshaft until the circlip seats properly.

NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.

Position the halfshaft through the wheel bearing.

Using the special tool, seat the halfshaft in the wheel bearing mating splines. Use Special Service Tool: 204-161 (T97P-1175-A) Installer, Halfshaft.

Install the new lower ball joint pinch bolt and nut.
Torque

: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)

Install the brake flexible hose bracket bolt.
Torque

: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

NOTE: Do not tighten the front wheel hub nut with the vehicle on the ground. The nut must be tightened to specification before the vehicle is lowered onto the wheels. Wheel bearing damage will occur if the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle applied.

NOTE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification in a continuous rotation. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification in a continuous rotation or damage to the components may occur.

NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.

Using an assistant to apply brake pressure, install the new wheel hub nut.

Torque

:Stage 1: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm) Stage 2: 90°

Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
If equipped, install the underbody shield and the retainers.
