Test L: High Beam Indicator Never/Always On

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous instrument cluster DTCs. Clear instrument cluster DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If no instrument cluster DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any instrument cluster DTCs are retrieved, repair code related problems. Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Turn headlights on. Place multifunction switch in high beam position. Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID HIBEAM. If PID displays HIGH, go to next step. If PID does not display HIGH, repair high beams as necessary. See AUTOLAMP SYSTEMS - LS article.
Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS ON, then OFF. High beam indicator should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If high beam indicator operates as specified, repair exterior light concern. See AUTOLAMP SYSTEMS - LS article. If high beam indicator does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
