Test G: Speedometer Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous instrument cluster DTCs. Clear instrument cluster DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If no instrument cluster DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any instrument cluster DTCs are retrieved, repair code related problems. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command SPEEDOMETER COMMAND. Trigger SPDOMETER. Scroll in increments of 10 percent while monitoring speedometer. Speedometer indication should increase by 16 MPH for every 10 percent increase on NGS tester. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command DISPLAY SEGMENT CONTROL II. Trigger SEGMENTS ON. If speedometer performs as specified and all segment illuminates, repair vehicle speed signal circuit. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If speedometer does not perform as specified and/or all segment do not illuminates, replace instrument cluster.
