Electrical Inspection

  1. Inspect electrical system for the following.
    • Blown Fuse(s). Fuse No. 5 (10-amp) Fuse No. 17 (10-amp) Fuse No. 20 (10-amp) Fuse No. 28 (10-amp)
    • Damaged Indicator Bulbs
    • Damaged Wiring Harness
    • Loose Or Corroded Connections
    • Damaged Switches, Sensors Or Modules
    • Damaged Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
    • Damaged Instrument Cluster
  2. Verify charging system, fuel system, safety belt warning chime, turn signals, headlights and cruise control are working properly. Inspect wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens, bad connections or damage.
  3. If all components are okay, connect NGS tester to DLC located below instrument panel. Using NGS tester, perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If NGS tester displays CKT 914 or CKT 915=ALL MODULES NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnosis network concern. If NGS tester displays NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for hybrid electronic instrument cluster, go to NO COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (HEIC) under SYMPTOM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Steering Column Ignition Lighting Control (SCIL) module, go to NO COMMUNICATION WITH STEERING COLUMN/IGNITION/LIGHTING (SCIL) CONTROL MODULE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  4. If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED for HEIC, retrieve and record continuous DTCs using NGS tester. Erase continuous DTCs. Perform HEIC self-test diagnostics using NGS tester. If any HEIC DTC is retrieved, see HYBRID ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (HEIC) MODULE DTC DEFINITIONS table to continue diagnosis. If no DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  5. If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED for SCIL module, retrieve and record continuous DTCs using NGS tester. Erase continuous DTCs. Perform SCIL module self-test diagnostics using NGS tester. If any SCIL module DTC is retrieved, see STEERING COLUMN/IGNITION/LIGHTING (SCIL) MODULE DTC DEFINITIONS table to continue diagnosis. If no DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test under SYMPTOM TESTS.

    (3) Check fuses No. 20 (30-amp) and 21 (20-amp) in engine compartment fuse box at driver's side of engine compartment, near spring tower. Check fuse No. 21 (10-amp) in fuse panel at driver's side end of instrument panel, near door opening. If any fuse is defective, replace fuse and recheck system operation. If fuses are okay, use NGS tester and check for continuous DTCs. Perform necessary tests for any DTCs.
    (4) Check for damaged parking brake components. Repair if necessary. Check fuse No. 12 (15-amp) in engine compartment fuse box at driver's side of engine compartment, near spring tower. If fuse is defective, replace fuse and recheck system operation. If fuse is okay, use NGS tester and check for continuous DTCs. Perform necessary tests for any DTCs.
    (5) Proceed to step 80) under CIRCUIT TEST XB in TESTS W/CODES - EEC-V article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
    (6) Check fuses No. 4 (10-amp) and 20 (10-amp) in fuse panel at driver's side end of instrument panel, near door opening. If any fuse is defective, replace fuse and recheck system operation. If fuses are okay, use NGS tester and check for continuous DTCs. Perform necessary tests for any DTCs.
    (7) Check fuses No. 1 (10-amp), 5 (10-amp), 26 (15-amp) and 41 (10-amp) in fuse panel at driver's side end of instrument panel, near door opening. If any fuse is defective, replace fuse and recheck system operation. If fuses are okay, use NGS tester and check for continuous DTCs. Perform necessary tests for any DTCs.
