Air Spring Fill Or Vent
CAUTION:
Failure to deflate air spring before servicing suspension can lead to component damage. Air spring should always be deflated when the following parts are serviced: lower control arm, steering knuckle, air spring, strut/shock or axle shafts. If in doubt, deflate air spring before service.
- Turn air suspension switch, located in left side of trunk, to ON position. See Figure or Figure . Turn ignition off. Install battery charger to reduce battery drain. If deflating air springs, raise and support vehicle.
- Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP
under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS. Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select. Select VDM-VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS. Tester will now display a list of component choices to either turn off or on. The following choices will result in inflation or deflation of individual air springs.
- COMPRESSOR ON, LF SOL ON. Left front spring will inflate.
- COMPRESSOR ON, LR SOL ON. Left rear spring will inflate.
- COMPRESSOR ON, RF SOL ON. Right front spring will inflate.
- COMPRESSOR ON, RR SOL ON. Right rear spring will inflate.
- VENT SOL: ON, LF SOL: ON. Left front spring will deflate.
- VENT SOL: ON, LR SOL: ON. Left rear spring will deflate.
- VENT SOL: ON, RF SOL: ON. Right front spring will deflate.
- VENT SOL: ON, RR SOL: ON. Right rear spring will deflate.
When air spring has reached desired fill or vent level, turn air suspension switch off and disconnect NGS tester.
