Safety Belt Warning & Warning Chime Module

  1. Instrument cluster reads a 5-volt signal from warning chime module to safety belt warning display when ignition is turned on.
  2. Instrument cluster grounds input to warning chime module to request a chime tone when a instrument cluster switch is pressed or a warning occurs.
  3. To check safety belt warning, ensure 5 volts exists on circuit No. 450 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) between instrument cluster connector C1 and warning chime module. Warning chime module is located behind instrument panel, near right side of steering column. Warning chime module is lower module, and contains a 10-pin connector. Connector is a flat-type connector with all pin connectors in a straight row.
  4. If 5 volts do not exist, check wiring between warning chime module and instrument cluster. If wiring is okay, warning chime module is defective.
  5. To check warning chime tone, ensure all other warning chimes, such as SAFETY BELT UNFASTENED and KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH, operate.
  6. Remove instrument cluster. Ensure a tone is sounded when circuit No. 183 (Tan/Yellow wire) between instrument cluster connector C2-1 and warning chime module is grounded with ignition on.
  7. If tone is not heard, check circuit No. 183 (Tan/Yellow wire) between instrument cluster connector C2-1 and warning chime module for opens or shorts.
