Brake Warning

  1. Brake warning combines low brake fluid level and parking brake application. In both applications, switch is closed, grounding warning circuit.
  2. Turn ignition on. Ensure brake warning display comes on, momentarily turns off and returns to normal operation. This is prove-outmode, and ensures all segments are operating properly.
  3. Ensure warning comes on when parking brake is engaged and ignition is turned on. If warning does not come on, turn ignition off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch and parking brake switch connectors. Brake fluid level switch is located on brake master cylinder. Parking brake switch is located on top of parking brake, under left side of instrument panel.
  4. Turn ignition on. No warning should come on. Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between each switch connector and ground. Turn ignition on. Warning should come on.
  5. If warning does not come on, check circuit No. 977 (Pink/White wire) or circuit No. 512 (Tan/Light Green wire) between instrument cluster connector C1 and brake fluid level switch or parking brake switch.
