Air Bag Warning

  1. Instrument cluster monitors a ground signal from air bag diagnostic module to indicate a fault in air bag system.
  2. Turn ignition on. Ensure air bag warning display comes on, momentarily turns off and returns to normal operation. This is prove-out mode, and ensures all segments are operating properly.
  3. Air bag module is located behind instrument panel, near right side of steering wheel, above warning chime module. Air bag module contains two 12-pin wiring connectors. With ignition off, disconnect connector containing Black/Yellow wire from air bag module.
NOTE: Connector containing Black/Yellow wire uses all connector pins; other connector does not use 2 pins.
  4. Turn ignition on. Ensure warning is not displayed. Connect jumper wire between circuit No. 608 (Black/Yellow wire) of air bag module connector and ground. Warning should be displayed. If warning does not display, check Black/Yellow wire between air bag module and instrument cluster connector C1, pin No. 12 for open circuit. See Figure and Figure .
