- Checking For Temperature Sender Short: Disconnect wiring from temperature sender, located on right side of engine, near No. 1 fuel injector. Turn ignition on. Temperature gauge should read cold with bottom bar lit.
- If temperature gauge reading is okay, replace temperature sender. If temperature gauge reading is not okay, proceed to step 3).
- Checking For Short In Wiring: Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect wiring from temperature sender, located on right side of engine, near No. 1 fuel injector.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER R & I . Measure resistance between connector C2-2, pin No. 21 (Red/White wire) and C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange or Black/Light Blue wire).
- If resistance is greater than 15,000 ohms, replace instrument cluster. Install door pillar sticker to indicate instrument cluster has been replaced. If resistance is less than 15,000 ohms, check Red/White wire to temperature sender for short circuit.
