Test FD, CO Displayed, Gauge Blanks Out Fuel Tank Symbol & Lights Top Two & Bottom Two Bars Of Fuel Gauge
- Checking Fuel Tank Sending Unit Wiring: Disconnect negative battery cable. Lower fuel tank to gain access to fuel tank sending unit. Disconnect electrical connector at fuel tank sending unit.
- Connect jumper wire between Yellow/White and Pink/Orange wires of fuel tank sending unit electrical connector. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on.
- Check for CO or CS being displayed on fuel gauge. If CS is displayed, remove jumper wire, and proceed to step 4). If CO is displayed, proceed to step 6).
- Checking Fuel Tank Sending Unit: Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between terminals of fuel tank sending unit. Resistance should be less than 181 ohms (normally between 11 and 168 ohms).
- If resistance is more than 181 ohms, replace fuel tank sending unit. If resistance is less than 181 ohms, check fuel tank sending unit connector for defective terminals or loose connections.
- Checking Fuel Tank Sending Unit Wiring At Instrument Cluster: Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER R & I .
- Connect jumper wire between Yellow/White and Pink/Orange wires of fuel tank sending unit electrical connector. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 2 (Yellow/White wire) and connector C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange or Black/Light Blue wire) of wiring harness.
- If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. Install door pillar sticker to indicate instrument cluster has been replaced. If continuity does not exist, repair open in wiring circuit.
