Removal [09/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

  2. REMOVE SERVICE PLUG GRIP 

    Refer to REMOVAL [09/2023 - ]

  3. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  5. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  6. DRAIN COOLANT (for Intercooler) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  7. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL 
  8. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 22
  9. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET ASSEMBLY

  16. REMOVE BATTERY COVER LOCK STRIKER 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      *1 Service Plug Grip *2 Battery Cover Lock Striker
      *a Projection *b Turn
      *c Button - -
      1. Using the service plug grip, remove the battery cover lock striker.

        HINT: 

        Insert the projection of the service plug grip and turn the button of the battery cover lock striker counterclockwise to release the lock.

  17. REMOVE INVERTER TERMINAL COVER 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      *a Guide Pin - -
      1. Remove the 2 bolts and disengage the 2 guide pins, and remove the inverter terminal cover.
        NOTE:
        • Do not touch the inverter cover gasket if not replacing it.
        • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV converter assembly.
  18. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      1. Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage between the terminals of the 2 phase connectors.

        Standard Voltage

        0 V

        NOTE:

        Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV converter assembly.

        HINT: 

        Use a measuring range of DC 750 V or more on the voltmeter.

  19. INSTALL INVERTER TERMINAL COVER 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      *a Guide Pin - -
      1. Attach the 2 guide pins and install the inverter terminal cover with 2 bolts.

        Torque: 4.5 N.m (46 kgf/cm, 40 in.lbf) 

        NOTE:
        • Do not touch the inverter cover gasket if not replacing it.
        • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV converter assembly.
  20. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      Nut Connector
      1. Disconnect the connector.
      2. Disengage the 2 claws and open the engine wire terminal cap.
      3. Remove the nut and disconnect the engine wire.
        NOTE:

        As shown in the illustration, loosen the nut by moving the tool downward.

  21. DISCONNECT INLET NO. 1 INVERTER COOLING HOSE

      1. Release the hose clip and disconnect the inlet No. 1 inverter cooling hose from the EV converter assembly as shown in the illustration.
        NOTE:

        Apply insulating tape to the pipes and in the disconnected hoses, or cover the pipes and hoses with plastic bags to prevent foreign matter from entering the cooling system and to prevent coolant from spilling near the EV converter assembly.

  22. DISCONNECT NO. 1 INVERTER COOLING HOSE ASSEMBLY

      1. Release the hose clip and disconnect the No. 1 inverter cooling hose assembly from the EV converter assembly as shown in the illustration.
        NOTE:

        Apply insulating tape to the pipes and in the disconnected hoses, or cover the pipes and hoses with plastic bags to prevent foreign matter from entering the cooling system and to prevent coolant from spilling near the EV converter assembly.

  23. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE AND INVERTER STIFFENER

  24. REMOVE BATTERY COVER LOCK STRIKER 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      *1 Service Plug Grip *2 Battery Cover Lock Striker
      *a Projection *b Turn
      *c Button - -
      1. Using the service plug grip, remove the battery cover lock striker.

        HINT: 

        Insert the projection of the service plug grip and turn the button of the battery cover lock striker counterclockwise to release the lock.

  25. REMOVE UPPER INVERTER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      *a Guide Pin - -
      1. Remove the 3 bolts and disengage the 2 guide pins, and remove the upper inverter cover sub-assembly.
        NOTE:
        • Do not touch the inverter terminal gasket if not replacing it.
        • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV converter assembly.
  26. DISCONNECT FLOOR UNDER WIRE 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      1. Using an insulated tool, remove the 4 bolts.

      *a Waterproof Seal - -
      1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the floor under wire from the EV converter assembly.
        NOTE:
        • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV converter assembly.
        • Do not touch the waterproof seal or terminals of the connector.
        • Do not damage the terminals, connector housing or EV converter assembly during disconnection.
        • Insulate the disconnected terminals with insulating tape.
        • Cover the hole where the cable was connected with tape (non-residue type) or equivalent to prevent entry of foreign matter.
  27. REMOVE INVERTER TERMINAL COVER 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      1. Remove the 2 bolts and disengage the 2 guide pins, and remove the inverter terminal cover.
        NOTE:
        • Do not touch the inverter cover gasket if not replacing it.
        • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV converter assembly.
  28. REMOVE EV CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    NOTE:

    Cover the opening of the EV converter assembly or transaxle with tape or an equivalent (non-residual type) to prevent foreign matter from entering.

      *a PN Terminals - -
      1. Using an insulated tool, remove the 2 bolts.
        NOTE:

        Do not excessively tighten the PN terminals.

      Remove in this Direction (1) Remove in this Direction (2)
      1. Remove the 4 bolts.
      2. Remove the bolt and disengage the clamp.
      3. Pull out the EV converter assembly in the direction shown in the illustration.
        NOTE:
        • Pull the EV converter assembly out with the EV converter assembly completely removed from the PIN terminals, so that the PIN terminals are not damaged or bent.

        • When removing the EV converter assembly from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the surrounding parts.
        • To prevent damage, do not hold the coolant pipes, brackets and connectors when lifting up the EV converter assembly.
        • To prevent damage caused by static electricity, do not touch the terminals of connectors on the EV converter assembly side.
        • When handling the EV converter assembly, do not hold it from the positions marked in the illustration.

        • When storing the EV converter assembly, do not support it from positions prohibited from direct placement, and ensure that the lower surface is not damaged.

      4. Remove the 2 bolts.
      5. Disconnect the air conditioning wire and remove the EV converter assembly.
  29. REMOVE CONVERTER COVER

  30. REMOVE O-RING 
    HINT: 
    Although the O-ring is reusable, replace it if it is damaged.

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  31. REMOVE INVERTER COVER GASKET 
    HINT: 
    Although the inverter cover gasket is reusable, replace it if it is damaged.
