Installation [12/2023 - ]: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Lexus TX 550h+ and 2024 Lexus TX 500h. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. HOW TO PREVENT STATIC ELECTRICITY 
    NOTE:
    • Static electricity should be eliminated when removing/installing the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
    • Do not touch the electronic components of a circuit board.
    • Keep clothes away from electronic components.
    • Place the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly and any removed electronic components on SST (antistatic mat).

      1. Wear SST (antistatic wrist strap).
        • SST: 09890-47010 
      2. Connect the ground clip of SST (antistatic mat) securely to a ground point provided in the workshop or on a workbench (anchor bolt).
        • SST: 09890-47010 

        HINT: 

        If the ground clip cable is too short, use an extension cable.

      3. Connect the ground clip of SST (antistatic wrist strap) securely to the specified point of SST (antistatic mat).
      4. When handling internal components of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly, use only antistatic gloves or bare hands to prevent damage from static electricity or the entry of foreign matter.
  2. INSTALL EV MOTOR CONTROL INVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • Do not touch the circuit board.
    • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV motor control inverter assembly.

      *a Hold here - -
      1. While holding the corners of the EV motor control inverter assembly, align it with the guide pins of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly and temporarily install it.
        NOTE:

        Make sure that the sealing surfaces and contact surfaces are free of foreign matter.

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, temporarily install the 8 bolts evenly in several steps in the order shown in the illustration, and then tighten them to the specified torque.

        Torque: 13.8 N.m (141 kgf/cm, 10 ft.lbf)

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, temporarily install the 3 bolts evenly in several steps in the order shown in the illustration, and then tighten them to the specified torque.

        Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

      2. Check the torque of the 3 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

        Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

  3. INSTALL REAR TRANSAXLE MOTOR COMPARTMENT WIRE

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, install a new rear transaxle motor compartment wire with the 2 bolts evenly in several steps, and then tighten them to the specified torque.

        Torque: 4.1 N.m (42 kgf/cm, 36 in.lbf)

      1. Connect the 2 connectors in the order shown in the illustration.
  4. INSTALL REAR TRANSAXLE INVERTER COOLING PIPE

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, install 2 new rear transaxle inverter cooling pipes with the 4 bolts evenly in several steps, and then tighten them to the specified torque.

        Torque: 4.1 N.m (42 kgf/cm, 36 in.lbf) 

  5. INSPECT FOR AIR LEAK

      1. Remove the cap from the coolant pipe.
      2. Using a vacuum pump, apply a vacuum of 50 kPa (0.5 kgf/cm2 , 7.3 psi) and check vacuum can be maintained.

        Standard

        The vacuum pressure does not decrease for at least 30 seconds.

        NOTE:

        If the vacuum pressure decreases, check for a leak between the vacuum pump and coolant pipe. If a leak is not found, remove the EV motor control inverter assembly and check the installation condition.

  6. INSTALL INVERTER COVER 
    NOTE:
    • Do not touch the circuit board.
    • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
    • Do not touch or allow grease or oil to contact the sealing surfaces of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
    • Apply the bead of seal packing so that it overlaps itself.

      *e Seal Packing - -
      1. Apply seal packing (diameter: 3.0 mm (0.118 in.)) in a continuous line to the locations shown in the illustration.

        Seal Packing

        Toyota Genuine Seal Packing 1282C

        NOTE:
        • Install the inverter cover within 3 minutes of applying seal packing.
        • Tighten the bolts within 15 minutes of applying seal packing.

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, temporarily install a new inverter cover with 15 new bolts evenly in several steps in the order shown in the illustration, and then tighten them to the specified torque.

        Torque: 9.4 N.m (96 kgf/cm, 83 in.lbf) 

      2. Check the torque of the 15 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

        Torque: 9.4 N.m (96 kgf/cm, 83 in.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Make sure that the bolts are securely contacting the inverter cover.

  7. INSTALL HV BATTERY CHARGER WIRE (for HEV Model) 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4
  8. INSTALL NO. 3 HIGH VOLTAGE FLOOR UNDER WIRE (for PHEV Model) 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
  9. INSTALL UPPER INVERTER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    for PHEV Model:
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2
    for 1Motor-HEV Model:
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5
  10. INSTALL MOTOR MOUNTING INSULATOR LH

  11. INSTALL REAR MOTOR MOUNTING INSULATOR RH

    NOTE:

    When replacing the EV motor control inverter assembly, perform "18.ECU CONFIGURATION" after connecting the cable to the auxiliary battery terminal.

  18. ECU CONFIGURATION 
    NOTE:

    Perform the ECU configuration after replacing the EV motor control inverter assembly.

    Refer to ECU CONFIGURATION [09/2023 - ]

  19. PERFORM RESOLVER LEARNING 
    NOTE:
    • The resolver learned values cannot be initialized by disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal or removing a fuse.
    • If resolver learning is not performed after the part related has been replaced, the following DTCs may be stored and the symptoms may occur:
      • DTC output
        1. P1C5E19 (Drive Motor "B" Inverter Circuit Current Above Threshold)
        2. P0C021D (Drive Motor "B" System Circuit Current Out of Range)
        3. P0C1A00 (Drive Motor "B" Execution Torque Performance)
      • Slight vibration at a vehicle speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) or less
      • Shock and vibration during acceleration
    HINT: 
    • After replacing the EV motor control inverter assembly, write the stored resolver compensation value.
    • If the "read compensation value" cannot be performed, the resolver compensation value on the QR code label of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly will need to be checked.
    1. Store resolver compensation value (if the "read compensation value" can be performed)
      1. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 2 minutes or more.
      2. Check that the air conditioning system and power outlet socket are turned off.
      3. Enter the following menus.

        Powertrain > Rear Motor Generator > Utility 

        Tester Display
        Rear Resolver Correction Value Registration
      4. Select "Register Compensation Value", enter the compensation value read prior to replacement and then write the resolver compensation value.
      5. Clear the DTCs.
        NOTE:

        After replacing the EV motor control inverter assembly, DTCs are stored when turning the ignition switch to ON, so be sure to clear the DTCs.

      6. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 10 seconds or more.
      7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, wait for 5 seconds or more, and check that no DTC is output.
    2. Check resolver compensation value on QR code label (if the "read compensation value" cannot be performed)
      1. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 2 minutes or more.
      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, wait for 5 seconds or more, and check that no DTC is output.
      3. Enter the following menus.

        Powertrain > Rear Motor Generator > Utility 

        Tester Display
        Rear Resolver Correction Value Writing
      4. Enter the resolver compensation value on the QR code label checked prior to replacement, and then write the resolver compensation value.
      5. Clear the DTCs.
        NOTE:

        After replacing the EV motor control inverter assembly, DTCs are stored when turning the ignition switch to ON, so be sure to clear the DTCs.

      6. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 10 seconds or more.
      7. Check that the air conditioning system and power outlet socket are turned off.
